Coastal Eastside - Jõelähtme & Neeme

Country Touring • 1 day • from 44 EUR

Discover the ageless charm of Estonian landscapes as we take our leave for a change of pace and fresh countryside air. The romance of sleepy villages, aromatic fields and dusty winding roads is a simple must to top off your Estonian vacation.

Ernest Hemingway once said that it is by riding a bicycle that you can learn the contours of a country best. We follow this idea down the road out of Tallinn for a daytrip or even two, where a summertime dream awaits. Our destination is unique and essentially off the grid, which works well for any appetites of exploration you might have. It could be a chance encounter with an indigenous deer or fox, a distant rush of rivers underground, the smell of primeval pine groves, a roar of hidden waterfalls close by, or dramatic screams of seagulls in the background you remember best. For a mutual sunset delight, however, the road will take us to fishing villages lost in time. The only thing left is to imagine yourself standing on a white endless beaches of sea-polished stones, looking down on the waves colored after a perfect sunset. Now might be time to dust of your swimsuit.

Of course, when expecting an undisturbed drive in the countryside and nature everywhere around, you are not far off, but it is a little more than just birds and bees. This area is one of the oldest in the country, where it makes stumbling upon a piece of heritage relatively simple. Expect anything from ancient settlements and burial mounds, to solitary medieval fortification and pre-historic fortresses, once proud manors and churches, as well as Soviet coastal defense installations left forgotten. As a reminder, do not forget to pack a sense of adventure and something warm for the evening. And yes, there will be cake.

FAQ

WHAT KIND OF A TOURING BIKE DO I GET?
Well, we have a light-weight champion in store to take you places – the Fuji Absolute 1.3. Between a hybrid and road-bike, it is the perfect balance of durability and function for all the long-distance cycling tours you want to make. And it comes with all the safety gear (i.e. bicycle helmet and additional features) you might need. For more details, you can read on in our equipment section.
WHICH CYCLING TOUR SHOULD I CHOOSE?
It all depends on your ambitions, really. Consider the challenge you need for a perfect day and the time you have on hand. Of course, we are always happy to make suggestions, should you need them.
WHAT IF I DON’T WANT TO CHOOSE OPTIONAL EVENTS, BUT SAY MY HUSBAND DOES?
We have it worked out, so your husband (to follow the example) can go about. In the meantime, we will log some more miles of fun and adventures and rendezvous a little way down the road.
SHOULD I REALLY BRING A SWIMMING SUIT?
Indeed, for we have that sort of thing included as an integral part of summer joys and a lengthy drive in the countryside (unless you prefer to go au naturel, that is). Of course, considering all genesis-like nakedness of the corporeal form, we cannot guarantee total privacy, when accessing public places. We promise to do our best, but ultimately it is up to you.
WHAT KIND OF A CHALLENGE TO EXPECT?
This tour is designed to cover 60 kilometers on country and forest side roads (even 70, if you feel unstoppable) with little to no terrain elevations in sight. It is definitely not a stage of Tour de France, and we will keep going with relaxation and rest stops in mind to stretch our legs and smell the roses, but long-distance bike trips might still be something of a required taste. The best advice is to consider your capabilities.
SHOULD I PACK A NICE TURKEY SANDWICH?
Just so you know, we anticipate hunger and have planned stops along the way for a nice lunch and dinner, as well as introducing the local snack customs. Otherwise we do not discriminate the toppings found in your lunch- box, unless it could be read in any international airport: weapons, corrosive or radioactive materials and so forth.
HOW DO WE GET TO OUR DESTINATION?
All included, it is part of our Green Initiative to have environmental impact in mind, so we will be taking the train there and back again. Not only is it simple sweet and comfortable in brand-new carrot-looking Stadler FLIRT bullet trains, riding one remains as romantic as in the days of the steam engines. Not only a good opportunity to catch up, but it also has an air-conditioned restroom to adore. Sort-of a cherry on a cherry, but we try.
