Cycling Day Trip • 11 hours • 55 EUR
A romantic boat ride and some 14 km away from the city center, the island of Aegna is probably best known for taking the day to relax and enjoy.
The character of the place is unique. With only two residents to meet on the island, the experience is not only incredibly intimate, but has a certain quality like meditating. Surrounded by rushing waves on all sides, there are a few curious forest trails to traverse cutting across the woodland terrain between sandy beaches. The most notable sights include the majestic sea eagle very few people are lucky to encounter, as well as distant mountains broken up and scattered into stone giants. Offering a spiritual journey just a little shy from Stonehenge, the ancestral labyrinth called the City of Jerusalem was rediscovered for all travelers to behold.
Dating back as far as the First World War and even the grand sea-fortress of Peter the Great, the island was also used as a coastal artillery position. While some things have faded away, you can still follow the old railroad to imagine the many bomb shelters, battery positions, the officers’ casino and the garrison once living there.
Like a symbol for the country, it is perfect to lose yourself here without losing your way, with many little wonders around to reward your spirit of adventure. A swimming attire comes highly recommended.
